Music Monday :: Die Antwoord "I Fink U Freeky"

This post is made possible by Timothy Bowen. Please visit his website, A Lunatic Pope Dot Com.

WAT O_O

Word Of The Day: Zef

"Zef is a South African counter-culture movement. Die Antwoord's personas are said to be greatly influenced by Zef in their style"

Read more about it in the link. Apparently South Africans don't like Ford, either.

Music Monday :: Saul WIlliams "Patience"

Since I've found it difficult to update recently, this Music Monday will have a bit more substance than some of the previous, hooray!

Without further ado, here is "Patience."

I'm such a Saul Williams groupie. I haven't found one thing he's touched that I don't like. I aspire to be like him. And I absolutely love his new album, Volcanic Sunlight. True to the rumors, it IS different than what he's done in the past, but IMO what he does just keeps getting better. His older songs age well. Just. AWESOMENESS.

Lots of words go here about the song, but I don't have time to form them into coherent text.

"It's getting harder to maintain"

My favorite post on Technicolor Typecast so far is How to Be Successful in Five Easy Steps (Or at Least a Pretty Good Cosplayer). I mean, it's so problogger-y. (I guess. I don't really know much about problogger.) Its so awesome, that I inspired myself when I wrote it.  Still not sure if its the best advice though. Gimme a break, I'm shooting from the hip, here.

I realized it directly conflicts with awesome truth/transparency. Which I try to value and uphold. But I also value finding yourself, and doing what makes you happy. Sometimes it seems like sticking to 100% truthiness is contraindicated to grabbing life by its balls and living, doing what your soul tells you is right. Not that I'm saying you should lie. But, for example, for someone like me with social anxiety, I'm tempted to just create a temporary alter-ego in order to get used to talking to people. Telling the truth, if you're not a good storyteller, has a tendency to be boring, and if you're talking to an acquaintance or a stranger... I don't know. Perhaps white lies and exaggerations and completely made up shenanigans could come in handy.

Also let me mention Sam Spurlin, and something he said on Twitter that resonated with me. Actually the internet is really unreliable at this place, so no exact quote will be given. But it was something about finding your passion... people (like me) who are uncertain of their passions tend to look inward to find their passion, however, you might be more successful if you create your own passion. Get out there and do stuff that sounds fun, and who knows, maybe you'll end up being passionate about it.

Well, I don't remember exactly where I was going with this whole post and I must be going soon. Somehow this is all related to this poem from Maya Angelou that I strongly identify with. So, hmm.

My conclusion is to be reached in the future. Draw your own conclusions. I keep trying to oversimplify these things. Or perhaps they are simple and I'm complicating them. Or maybe things just are, and they will be what they will be regardless of how anyone will label them.

Fo the chillins, yo.

Music Monday :: The Offspring "Self Esteem"

This song is dedicated to the old me. Lets all give her a hug, she was a sweetheart.

***HUG***

^_^

Found this picture that I drew in high school. I didn't ever think I could draw, and certainly this didn't count because I copied off of pictures from The Offspring's "Americana" CD. What a silly, this is really good!

We're MOVING!

This WEEKEND!

Yay!! Wish us luck! We've been interested in "tiny living" for a year or two now, but I hope we all fit okay in a 1-bedroom apartment! Kinda nervous, but mostly excited!!! :D Exclamation points!!! :D

Music Monday :: Official Unofficial Review of Confessions of a Lunatic Pope - The Soundtrack

Why not review? A better introduction goes here. >_< TIME!!!!!

think i am going to make this face when i take pictures from now on

Buy it! (Might be on Amazon too? Not sure?) Or just listen online! Find the other songs at alunaticpope.com!! :D

Favorite song on the CD!
Halt Production and Consumption by Tim Bowen

1. "12 21 2012" 3 Inch Giants
Really like the first 20 seconds.

2. "Fiends" Crucial Sufi Project
aarrrrgh chicken patty chicken patty chicken patty

3. "Crucial Sufi VS Parson's Brown" Thee Temple OV Thee Dog
One of my favorites on the album. ^_^ Favorite lyric: "That was crucial, brah" or maybe that part where whoever is singing makes guitar sounds. :D

4. "Mandie Said" Bad Spelling and Grammar
I forgot. Oh, wait- this is the one that I think I avoid because I think it's going to curse me. Not that it sounds like a curse. XD

5. "Brain DamnAge" Bad Spelling and Grammar
This reminds me of a song that emo Jim Morrison would write. :D

6. "The Day 9-11" Parson's Brown Project
I can't remember. :( It would help if I could listen to the CD while I type but we can't have everything, now can we?

7. "Halt Production and Consumption" Baba Ku
My absolute favoritest favoritest song on the album. I love the riff!!! I don't even know what the lyrics are but if I listen I would probably like them according to the title. :D

8. "Bluegrass and Sorcery" Baba Ku
Baba Ku is my favoritest band on the album*. This is isn't one of my favorite songs on the album but I still enjoy listening to it. Of all the bands, Baba Ku definitely has the most solid sound on the album, I think. :D

9. "Gonna Shovel Rice" Bad Spelling and Grammar
This one seriously rivals #7, I really freaking love it. It needs to be in a video if it is not already.

10. "Freemasons Make it out of Human Bones" 3 Inch Giants
It's so that you don't cough when you've got a cold. Yup. :D

11. "Al Pacino" Parson's Brown Project
This is another rival of #7 (and #9). I have to skip this song when my kids are around though because *whispers* there are bad words. :O  I really love it though. "Huah!!" Whoever does vocals for Parson's Brown Project seems really fun and energetic. :D Even though I am totally blanking on #6. That is so weird.

12. "Inbetween Vacuumings" 3 Inch Giants
Huh, I kind of remember this song, but it's going the way of #6 in my head. :/

13. "Lovecraftian Experience at the Cracker Barrel" 3 Inch Giants
One of the most catchy songs on the album. Not one of the best, or one of my favorites, but I find it playing in my head after I listen to the soundtrack. And I don't think it's because it's the last song, because usually the CD loops so it's not usually the last one I listen to. I'm not mad about it though. :D

*I just looked through the Pope's posts and apparently Baba Ku opened for Kimya Dawson! What!!! I was just talking about her! :D

Music Monday :: Sage Francis - "The Best of Times"

Saw on the lovely Twitter just now that today's Sage Francis's birthday. So I will post one of my favorite songs, which just happens to be performed by him. Not to mention written by him, I imagine.

Only-Children Unite!

~

Well, Nebberz and I got married last week on 11/11/11! It was absolutely mind-blowing to us. We actually have had to take a break to just calm down for like a whole week. Okay, I'm probably exaggerating. (I'm not supposed to tell you that, am I?) It was really awesome though. <3

Maybe I'll make a post on it. I definitely need to make some moar posts on wabisabiweddingday.blogspot.com for all the people who donated but weren't able to be there.

Oh and also received the CD from the Lunatic Pope's giveaway! It came with 2 books and some Pope cards. :D Awesome. I'll have to make a post about that, too. And listen to the CD. I realized I don't have CD players around all ready for me to play CDs on. CDs are so 90s. ^_~

Music Monday :: Hollyweerd "I Wanna Meet Her"

I listen to more than just hip hop and electronic music, I swear!

I found out about Hollyweerd from Adult Swim's ATL Remix album. You can listen to and download the whole thing here!

I really, really, really love their song, "Weerdo," and I think you should go listen to it (it's the last song on the playlist here, but you can find it on youtube, or buy it from Hollyweerd somewhere, or whatev.)

But, I came across the video below, and I love their live performance. I wanna go to a show like this. Have you been to any shows like this??? I need to go see more music! <3

VLOG - Head Static

OH GOD WHAT AM I DOING.

This is either a very, very, very, very, very good idea, OR a very, very, very, very, very bad idea. XD

This is a song by Nocando, this awesome dude from LA. We first heard of this guy through a song he did with Busdriver (the dude from last post!) - "Least Favorite Rapper" (one of my favorite songs from Busdriver's albums btw). Together Busdriver and Nocando have recently created Flash Bang Grenada; I've yet to listen to the album but I'm really excited about it!! Check both of them out; they're SO AWESOME!!!!

In 2010 Nebberz and I went to see another of our favorite artists, Blockhead, at the Nectar Lounge in Seattle -- and who was there with him? None other than our friend, Mr. Nocando! He had this awesome stage presence and really is just a solid performer and he has such solid songs. Alright! I admit he's pretty sexy, too. (Don't tell Nebberz! D:)

Without further ado, it is I, Tracerz, of Technicolor Typecast! I hope nobody I know IRL sees this (*hides*).

So yeah, just me, trying to break out of my shell, be authentic, all that "happiness," "meaning of life" jazz. I think I have a little bit more shell-breaking to do, HA. Apologies for using my iPod; we have like 3 digital cameras. One of them is partly functional, one needs drivers that I can't find (not that I tried terribly hard or anything), and one is being borrowed. So I hope you were able to enjoy 4:3. :D

BTW, please subscribe, follow, rate, comment, etc. on the Technicolor Typecast YouTube Channel. We'll love you forever! :D

Also take a peek at WabiSabiWeddingDay.blogspot.com (two more weeks! 11/11/11!!) and donate to our noble cause. :D

Music Monday :: Busdriver Bubble Bath Freestyle

Due to my indecision over what song to pick, I'm going with Busdriver freestyling in a bathtub. He is one of our favorite artists. Check him out. :D

Just A Moment of Weakness

a shitty couple of days has been had by me - it's finally become glaringly obvious to me that working from home for 7 years and moving to a place where i only really know 1 person has actually been extremely detrimental to parts of my existence. and then being fired a few critical months before i was planning to quit, my job going overseas & to computers, collecting unemployment, half-assing and doing the bare minimum to meet the job search requirements because i've got more important things to focus on than money (even though i am the breadwinner) - but finding it hard to half-ass, only applying for jobs i could see myself doing and then (of course) getting turned down (48 times already) since i still haven't perfected my resume, and, oh god, so awkward talking to people, especially females, especially attempting to help the one who just had a baby, and trying to be there for her, but... i'm... just... so... awkward.... trying to pretend that i'm perfectly fine, asking her about what she's planning career-wise, of course she's a college graduate and (before she went to albania for the peace corps) she was some sort of epic official wetlands research conservationist person, and she wants to go back to school to get moar epic certifications for that, and i have never felt so poor and uneducated - even though i'm determined to prove money and formal education are unnecessary and often interfere with real progress, but feeling like my attempts to make progress in any form are in vain... questioning my value...

Errybody please visit wabisabiweddingday.blogspot.com :D kthx

Music Monday :: Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood" - Interpret a song (Nebberz post!)

I would like to take the time to share my interpretation of one of many songs that have been influential in my life. It is a fairly well-known one and I still remember some of my first times hearing it, thinking it was interesting and "different" but never paid much more attention to it than that. Many years later, I listened to the song again while under alternative influences and what I heard that time, left me sort of stunned. This interpretation, as with most any artistic interpretation, will unlikely represent the true meaning that the artists may have originally intended (if they even knew!). However, it will be correct in the sense of what it has meant to me, and for me it certainly has a strong spiritual message. Parts of what I say may not make sense until you take some of the later lyrics into consideration, or I'm crazy. (:

Gorillaz
Clint Eastwood

(In researching others' thoughts on the meaning of this song, one recurring theme that comes up was of course drugs. Many would focus on the "sunshine in a bag, I'm useless" section, and considered that to be someone under the influence and lazy. Though this is certainly possible, there is a reference to the movie The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. (excellent movie by the way) In the movie, the kid asks “you gonna be alright?” to which he responds “Ya, kid. I got sunshine in a bag.” referring to the gold he has in his bag. One of a few likely reasons the song received it's title. Other reasons for the title include the fact that there is a Jamaican Reggae artist by the name of Clint Eastwood who it seems they heard of while recording the album there. Additonally, in the background of the song, they use a melodica which Damon Albarn of Gorillaz plays throughout the track, and he thought it sounded a lot like the score to the Clint Eastwood's movie A Fistful of Dollars. Also just came across the fact on wikipedia that David also plays for the alternative supergroup The Good, The Bad and the Queen, so he certainly appears to be quite the fan of Clint Eastwood.)

Here is the video in case you have not seen it yet.

[Hook]
Oh oh oh oh oh
I ain't happy,
I'm feeling glad
(Things may be sucky now, but he's feeling some relief, maybe somewhat because of the next line.)
I got sunshine in a bag
(Sunshine in a bag can be a metaphor for whatever makes us happy. Medicinal plants being one likely option especially when considering the fact that plants are partly comprised of light/sun energy through photosynthesis. He may feel he literally has "sunshine" in a bag.)
I'm useless but
(In this day and age, with the way things are going and the systems that are in place, there is little place for people like him but)
Not for long
(that is about to change.)
The future is coming on
(The current way of stagnant socities, conglomerates, and corrupted governments is beginning to deteriorate. The time is coming when people like him are going to be far from useless, and in fact may be pivotal.)

[Hook]

[Verse 1 with Del the Funkee Homosapien]
Yeah... Ha Ha!
Finally someone let me out of my cage
(At this point in the music video, a genie or spirit appears above Russel. He appears a bit staticy like a TV station, I believe the point being that the entity is of a different frequency than our reality, representing a spirit guide or some sort of cosmic power.)
Now, time for me is nothing cos I'm counting no age
(Time is an idea invented by humans, this being does not pay attention nor is he affected by such concepts. On his plane, things might work very differently.)
Now I couldn't be there
(They know that once we are aware of them, we will most likely experience disbelief at first.)
Now you shouldn't be scared
(But it is a benevolent being that is...)
I'm good at repairs
(here to help fix the wrongs many of us are experiencing.)
And I'm under each snare
(Vibrations are a large part of what exists, even on our so-called physical plane, without the vibrations of light waves, we would see nothing. Even solid material objects are made up of bouncing atoms. This being exists from such vibrations, an example they give being the vibrations created underneath a struck drum snare.)
Intangible
(Not a part of the physical word, immaterial.)
Bet you didn't think so I command you to
(We have been lulled to sleep and rendered unaware of these things, we have forgotten, it commands us to remember what true thought is.)
Panoramic view
(The big picture, to think beyond ourselves, and beyond only what we see around us.)
Look I'll make it all manageable
(They will explain these concepts to us simply and help us to handle them.)
Pick and choose
(We have the option to either stand up and accept these changes...)
Sit and lose
(or to sit and do nothing, and fade it to the purple hazy twilight)
All you different crews
(he's talking to everyone as a whole, no matter how much we would like to consider ourselves separate from one another.)
Chicks and dudes
Who you think is really kickin' tunes?
(Many believe they are already thinking for themselves and calling the shots in their lives, but the messages sent through television, news, radio has more impact on our choices and "free will" than we would like to believe.)
Picture you gettin' down in a picture tube
(We watch so much television, we have forgotten who we are and fantasize about being a part of what we idolize.)
Like you lit the fuse
(To make it big and be one of the "awesome" celebrities that so many worship.)
You think it's fictional
(We may believe all these things being said are not real)
Mystical? Maybe
(Maybe we might want to just write it all off as mystical nonsense. That might be close to the truth though, yet still important.)
Spiritual
(Believing it's crazy nonsense doesn't change the fact that we are likely moving into an age of spiritual awakening and all that nonsense might end up being an integral part of our new reality.)
Hearable
(Though many of us are still unaware of these changes, messages, other vibrations etc., it is possible to hear it to those willing to listen. Meditation comes to mind. Alternative medicines are another way to become aware of it.)
What appears in you is a clearer view cos you're too crazy
(Once we are aware of these things, everything becomes much more clear, to the vast majority though, we will be shunned and considered crazy for our newfound views, especially if these realizations occurred through the use of plants. Or just be written off as a flower child hippie.)
Lifeless
To know the definition for what life is
(Without dark, light would not exist. If all there was were light, we would have no idea it even existed without comparison. For us to understand life and truly live, we must also learn to understand death/lifelessness. To accept death and truly let go, rids us of our fears and opens up the path to awakening/nirvana/life as it truly is.)
Priceless
For you because I put you on the hype shit
(They realize that once we are aware of what they are saying, we will probably find humor in the irony of them using the same media to reach out to us (television, radio) that so many have abused to manipulate our thoughts and opinions.)
You like it?
(in the end it's worth it though, isn't it?)
Gunsmokin' righteous with one toke
(All it takes is one instance with a hallucinogen, and then hear something like this, to get us up in arms about what humanity is doing and wanting to change things.)
Psychic among those
Possess you with one go
(For those who are psychic/ready to awaken, one toke and/or one experience with a song/message such as this one, begins the awakening process (possesses) even if we are unaware of it happening. Being psychic does not necessarily mean you are awakened or understand life, but certainly increases the possibility of such.)

[Hook]

[Verse 2]
The essence the basics
(The essence of life are the very basic things (music, food, water, love, family etc.))
Without it you make it
(If we don't have the things we truly need to give quality of life, we don't go to a store to buy it, we make it ourselves. Wanting things and buying them overly complicates life as it brings things such as currency, stocks, supply and demand, trade embargos, and war into existence. Not having to rely on others is far more satisfying.)
Allow me to make this
Childlike in nature
(To explain it in a way a child might see the world, simple.)
Rhythm
You have it or you don't that's a fallacy
(We are all born with the ability to do these things. To create music, dance, love, to sense and understand vibrations and how they create reality, and that to believe we are unable to do these things is completely false.)
I'm in them
Every sprouting tree
Every child apiece
Every cloud you see
(This vibrational being/spirit guide/higher power, is a part of everything. All of existence is connected no matter how much we may see things as being separate. This includes ourselves, it and us are a part of the very same energy.)
You see with your eyes
(The reason we find this difficult to understand, is because our eyes see things as existing separately and that is one of the primary ways we look and attempt to understand the world. Because of this, we limit most of our understanding to only our immediate sorroundings.)
I see destruction and demise
(They are able to see life more easily through other means, sensing vibrations or perhaps simply seeing through the mind. They are able to see the bigger picture and all of the problems at once that many of us ignore.)
Corruption in disguise
From this fuckin' enterprise
(That includes seeing through the disguises of those that pretend to help us while having alterior motives. Many from "holy" faiths and organized religions keeping people living in fear of being damned for eternity, or denying male/female equality. Political groups who claim to support freedom while waging war and stripping others of such rights. Law enforcements who are supposed to be focused on personal safety, but instead are arresting massive amounts of individuals, most for nonviolent crimes.)
Now I'm sucked into your lives
Through Russ, though not his muscles but the percussion he provides
with me as a guide
(All of these things are ok though, because we have been made aware of their existence through things like the very song we are listening to)
But y'all can see me now cos you don't see with your eye
You perceive with your mind
(This was made possible because we stopped focusing on what we could see with sight, and instead saw with our mind)
That's the inner
(We learned to see with inner sight and not just external)
So I'm gonna stick around with Russ and be a mentor
(But there is still a lot to learn, so we will get to keep learning)
Bust a few rhymes so mother fuckers
Remember where the thought is
(They will continue spreading their message through groups such as this one, so that more people will become aware and learn to think.)
I brought all this
So you can survive when law is lawless
(They are doing this, so that when these enterprises do fall apart, many of us will not panic and be prepared for it and at least be somewhat aware of we will need to do to continue living. Focusing on the basics for example.)
Feelings, sensations that you thought were dead
(Most of these things are child-like in nature, that means we knew all of these things already when we were children, magic was easy to believe in. We are taught to forget these things, to believe it is silly non-sense.
No squealing, remember
(that it's all in your head)
(but now that we are aware of these feelings, these vibrations again, be careful who we talk to about them. Remember, the vast majority will think of us as crazy drug people if we spout such nonsense to them. It scares those that are not ready to accept such ideas. Best to let them discover on their own in their own way rather than trying to force others to believe what we are now aware of. That is how religions and cults start, someone makes these great discoveries, tells everyone about them and what they have to do, the message then starts to get twisted, especially hundreds of years after the person dies, and then we have the same problems as before)

[Hook]

Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment with your own thoughts and opinions.

For making it to end of this interpretation of Clint Eastwood, here is the Pli Life Cypher Version of the song. Enjoy

Music Monday :: Mimosa's "Come Around" Remix

Alright, I confess, I'm finally starting to get into reggae a little bit. There have been a few more palatable releases lately thanks to the Rise of Bob Marley. I've always wanted to like reggae, it just... doesn't keep my attention usually though. *shrugs* Not that this is all reggae. This is Mimosa. This... is... dubstep!!!

What? I dunno. Happy Monday?

Music Monday :: dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip - "The Beat That My Heart Skipped"

When I first heard dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip, I didn't want to like them. I believe I was listening to Saul Williams radio on last.fm, and a lot of spoken word artists kept coming up. I like spoken word, but I can only take so much of it, you know? That, and I didn't really like the sound of Scroob's voice at first, I guess. But I got over that FAST - the words that came out of his mouth are more than worth it. Not that he's a spoken word artist. But really any sort of rap or hip-hop is not much more than spoken word, is it? It's not really singing...

Anyway, I am far from a pro on music, I just really like listening to it.

I'll just let this song speak for itself. If you like it, listen to more! "Thou Shalt Always Kill" and "Introdiction" are a couple I suggest. :D

Music Mondays

Okay so I know it's not really Monday.  That's how it goes here at Technicolor Typecast though! Monday was 2 days ago, and I'm still not ready for it. Ah well, here goes anyway.

Back in my heyday, I was quite the audiophile. I used to read (and I mean read thoroughly) a handful of music magazines and listen intently to songs for hours a day on a daily basis. So I have been loving these music blogs I keep running into by you guys. It's got me a bit nostalgic, and I'm jelly. I wanna have a music blog too, *hmph.*

I wanted to make my first Music Monday post about the album Plastic Beach by The Gorillaz. It's one of my favorite albums. I was going to mention my trip to the Unemployment Office. It was quite an experience.

But I'm just not feeling that today. I'm feeling Mos Def's Umi Says.

I've been in a funk for the last day or two. Frustrated with being such a completionist at life. I only feel like I do things right if I do them like they are the most important thing ever. Unfortunately it's actually physically impossible to do that with 1,436 things. That's got me bummed.

I love songs with lyrics like this one. They are just so real and refreshing. I don't really like fluff or depressing stuff anymore. Everything I do, I want to make myself and the world better. That includes listening to music. So it's been hard to listen to music with lyrics for the past few years. You really have to dig for positive influences. But wow, once you do the work, there are so many songs with beautiful lyrics.

Shine your light on the world.... Shine your light for the world to see...
